Rentopian lets you control how many days customers are charged for on rental transactions, or how many times the rental rate. This is called the Charge for Days.
This allows you to create a longer Rental Period (the time between the Order Start Date and Order End Date) without charging the customer for each calendar day.
How Charge for Days Works
By default, Rentopian charges for every calendar day in the rental period.
Example:
Rental Start Date: September 17
Rental End Date: September 21
This creates a 5-day rental period.
By default, the customer would be charged 5 times the rental rate.
Adjusting Charge Days
You can manually change the number of charge days, or you can setup Default Charge for Days in your Order Settings.
Go to:
Settings β Order Settings
Find the Transaction Date and Times section. Under this section you'll find the Default Charge for Days option.
The Transaction Default Charge for Days setting controls how many days are charged automatically on new transactions.
Example:
Rental period = 5 days
Default charge days = 1
You can also enable:
Keep Order Charge Days the Same When Transaction Dates Are Changed
This helps prevent extra charges when adjusting logistics timing.
Example:
You extend the rental period for delivery timing
The customer still only pays for the original usage days
After making changes:
Click the green Update Settings button.
Your new transactions will now use the updated default charge settings. If you have existing transactions, they will be unaffected and would only be changed if manually edited. You can still make changes to the Charge for Days on any individual transaction even though you have set this default.
Note: If you use Product Level Multipliers, they may affect how charge days are calculated. You can find more information about Product Level Multipliers here.
