Serialized products let you track each individual item in your inventory with its own serial number.

This is especially important when using barcodes or RFID tags because Rentopian needs to recognize each physical item separately.

Start by editing the product you want to change.

Important: When you change a product to Serialized, all variants of that product will also become serialized products.

Once the product is serialized, you can add serial numbers to each variant.

A serialized variant includes Details, Stock, and Individual Items.

Serialized products require a Meter Unit, so you will need to select one for the variant.

Good to know: Selecting a Meter Unit does not mean you have to track or meter the item's usage. It is simply a required field for serialized products.

Click the Individual Items tab to add and manage the individual serialized items for the variant.

If the list is collapsed, click the gray arrow to expand it.

Don't see Individual Items? The Individual Items tab only appears for serialized products. Unserialized products will only show Details and Stock.

The number of individual items you can add is based on the quantity of that variant in your inventory.

For example, if you have a quantity of 160, Rentopian will allow you to add up to 160 individual serialized items.

You can add your individual items by scanning RFID tags, scanning barcodes, or entering the information manually.

To enter an item manually, click Add Item.

Each individual item can include:

The title, serial number, and barcode can all contain the same value.

You can also use different values if your items have their own labels, serial numbers, or barcodes.

If you are using a barcode or RFID scanner, scanning the item can enter its information automatically.

Every serial number in your Rentopian inventory must be unique.

The same serial number cannot be used:

Seeing a "Serial number must be unique" error? That serial number is already connected to another item somewhere in your Rentopian inventory. Enter a different serial number.

Once you have entered the item's information, click the green Save button.

The individual item will be created and automatically marked as available.

From the Individual Items list, you can:

You don't have to add everything at once. If you have 160 items in stock, you do not need to enter all 160 serial numbers at the same time. You can add individual items as you tag or serialize your inventory.

Once an individual item has been created, it can be used as a serialized item on your transactions.
